Dr. Ashley E. Mychak - Foot and Ankle Specialist - Wooster Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center

Foot and Ankle Specialist

Specializing in Forefoot surgery, rearfoot and ankle surgery, diabetic limb salvage as well as general podiatric care

“My pathway to Wooster Orthopaedics has been non-traditional but I am thrilled to join the team. I was raised in a one traffic light town in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Anthracite Coal Region. Following high school, I attended the University of Pittsburgh for my undergraduate and Masters degrees. For several years I taught middle school math and science in Pittsburgh Public Schools before deciding to go into Podiatry. You could say I like working with “digits.”

Most recently I finished a surgical fellowship in Youngstown, OH in Reconstructive Rearfoot and Ankle Surgery focusing on Diabetic Limb Salvage. Prior to fellowship, I finished a 4 year residency program at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital System in Philadelphia, PA. I have had the privilege to train under several leaders in my field. This has provided me a solid foundation in forefoot reconstruction, diabetic limb salvage including Charcot reconstruction, flat foot surgery and trauma to name a few highlights.

As a Foot and Ankle Specialist, I have never had just two feet come into my office. They are always attached to a unique and often medically complex patient. It is important to me to “meet patients where they are.” It was an important tenant when I was a classroom teacher and I find it holds true in medicine as well. This includes providing information and support in a means that the patient understands. I believe in a patient-centered approach that utilizes appropriate conservative and/or surgical care, physical therapy, and coordination with other specialties when warranted. I find the variety in Podiatry to be the most exciting. My day is filled with bunion deformities, biomechanical issues, diabetic infections, fractures, sprains and most importantly: patient improvement!”

I look forward to exploring Wooster and the surrounding communities with my fiancé, Chase, who is a paramedic/firefighter. When I’m not treating patients or reading crime thrillers, Chase and I will be spending time in the many parks with our dog. We already love the fresh air and friendly neighbors!
